AFTERLIFE

Goblin Magazine proudly presents ‘Afterlife’, its first full length video focussing on Ireland’s major scenes from Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Belfast & Dublin. Over 40 skateboarders took to the streets from the bitter evenings of winter through to the long afternoons of summer, producing the first major Irish scene video in recent memory as a result.

For many, skateboarding exists after six o’clock. This life after work leads mainly to cruising through the streets in the dark, or so you would think. Dublin for example is unique at night. It’s heavily lit in some areas whilst remaining dim in others and that is heightened by its uniquely sporadic and visceral architecture. The Super8 film format allows for this to be captured, echoing the tactility and rawness of these surroundings. This provides an insight into how a skateboarder is viewing the cityscape differently, looking at every space and object with a different perception, one that is trying to find the next spot.
